Stafford College Honours Academic and Personal Achievements in Monthly Awards

Each month Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group hold a ‘Student of the Month’ awards presentation that highlights and recognises the individual effort, progress and dedication of students who go above and beyond throughout the year.
This month saw the February round of nominees collect their awards. Our inspiring winners were selected for a variety of reasons from standing out in their chosen studies, their inspiring ability to overcome adversity and their commitment to supporting the local community. We want to say a huge thank you to Steve Tellwright, People and Quality Director at Capula for joining us and presenting the awards.
Isaac Morris – Award for Academic Studies
An outstanding A Level student, Isaac consistently demonstrates hard work, determination and maturity across all his studies. With predicted grades of A in English and Photography, and B in Law, he approaches learning with focus, independence and a drive to improve, regularly completing additional study and producing high-quality work.
Isaac’s strengths lie in his analytical thinking and curiosity. From achieving an A in his Photography investigation to completing an insightful EPQ exploring international relations, he shows a deep understanding of complex global issues. Isaac is known for his thoughtful contributions, confidence in discussion and supportive nature. His roles as a student representative and board member highlight his leadership, collaboration and commitment to the college community. With an offer to study International Relations at Durham University, Isaac has an incredibly bright future ahead.
Evie Jackson – Award for The Arts
Throughout her time on the course, Evie has demonstrated exceptional creativity, professionalism and commitment, alongside excellent attendance and punctuality. What truly sets her apart is her attitude, consistently positive, supportive and driven to succeed.
During a recent live advertising project with VCCP and the Music Venue Trust, Evie impressed judges with a professional-standard video, helping her team achieve runner-up against strong competition. She showed real maturity and sportsmanship, celebrating others’ success while continuing to push herself forward. Evie has even invested in her own development, travelling to London to take part in industry talks and workshops with Adobe representatives. Her portfolio is outstanding, showcasing work well beyond her level, including independent commissions such as window graphics for a local veterinary practice.
Slava Marynychenko – Award for Vocational Studies
Balancing his studies with a role at Lowes on Carter Street, Slava consistently demonstrates passion, professionalism and a drive for excellence. He has already gained valuable experience in high-end kitchens, including a stage at Upstairs by Tom Shepherd, where he impressed with his maturity and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, fine dining environment.
In the workplace, Slava is known for his efficiency, calm approach under pressure and strong teamwork, regularly exceeding expectations during service. His commitment to development is further reflected through competing in national events such as the Unox Combi Guru and British Culinary Federation competitions. Respected by peers and mentors alike, Slava’s talent and work ethic have earned him a nomination for the Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent Tourism Awards Rising Star.
Orla Gavin – Award for Professional Studies
Orla consistently demonstrates remarkable dedication, resilience, and a positive attitude in everything she does. Whether in the classroom or on outdoor expeditions, she gives her absolute best, even overcoming challenges such as an injury during a recent Snowdon expedition. Academically, Orla is excelling with a current performance of D*D*D*, showing commitment, focus and an eagerness to achieve high standards. Her excellent attendance further reflects her dedication to her studies.
Beyond her studies, Orla has shown a strong sense of community and leadership. She has volunteered for the upcoming college engagement trip to Kenya, helping to teach, build schools, and support local communities. She also shone during the Gradbach team-building event, impressing staff with her communication, teamwork and leadership skills.
Tyler Aitkenhead – Award for English
Currently studying Level 3 Sport, Tyler has shown outstanding dedication and resilience in his journey to pass GCSE English. After narrowly missing the pass mark on multiple occasions, he approached every lesson with positivity, determination and a genuine desire to improve.
Following another near miss in November, Tyler demonstrated exceptional maturity, seeking feedback, refining his work and maintaining full focus in lessons. His perseverance paid off when his paper was successfully remarked, securing the pass he had worked so hard for – a vital step towards his goal of progressing to university. Beyond the classroom, Tyler is a competitive runner and cyclist, competing with Stafford Harriers and in events such as the Stafford 10K. Tyler’s determination, positivity and refusal to give up make him a truly deserving recipient of this award.
Brandon Bryant – Award for Skills & Technology
Since September, Brandon has shown outstanding dedication, determination and a commitment to producing work of the highest standard. His attention to detail and drive for perfection set him apart, often reworking tasks to ensure his brickwork meets his own high expectations. Although he faced challenges early on, Brandon’s resilience and ‘can-do’ attitude have seen him grow in confidence and skill. His hard work is now paying off, with excellent assessment results and consistently top-quality work that stands out among his peers.
Brandon also showcased his talent by winning the Christmas in-house competition, demonstrating both skill and creativity under pressure. A positive influence in the workshop, Brandon inspires those around him with his determination and work ethic.
Ava-May Brown – Apprentice of the Month
A Commis Chef apprentice at Aston Marina, Ava has shown exceptional dedication, talent and professionalism from the very start of her journey. Securing her role against strong competition, she has quickly found her place in the pastry section, already creating desserts, cakes and bakes sold within the venue.
In the workplace, Ava is known for her precision, reliability and positive attitude, thriving in a fast-paced kitchen environment well beyond her years. At college, she maintains 100% attendance, fully engages in every session and consistently goes above and beyond with her theory work and portfolio. Beyond her apprenticeship, Ava is a passionate Girlguiding leader, has achieved her DofE Silver Award and is preparing for an international trip to India in 2026.
Ezme Perry – Award for Vocational Studies
Ezme has shown outstanding commitment, maturity and a consistently positive attitude towards her learning. She arrives to every lesson on time, prepared and ready to engage, setting a fantastic example for her peers from the moment she walks into the classroom.
Her work ethic is exceptional, approaching every task with determination and enthusiasm, and consistently achieving distinctions. Over the year, Ezme has grown in confidence and responsibility, demonstrating a strong commitment to improving and achieving her very best. The pride she takes in her work is reflected in the high standard she produces. Ezme’s enthusiasm, reliability and willingness to give her best in every activity truly set her apart. With her sights set on progressing to the Uniformed Protective Services course, Ezme is in a strong position for future success.
