Stafford student is a makeup 'Studio Star'
A Level 3 Theatrical, Special Effects Hair and Media Makeup student has secured a place on a prestigious programme with national beauty company Superdrug.
Sam Eggington entered the #SearchForStudioStars competition by creating a video on TikTok to showcase his talents using the official hashtag to get his video spotted. A panel of industry experts selected the 10 winning looks out of hundreds of entries with Sam’s breath-taking talents wowing the judges, winning him a spot alongside nine other Studio Stars.
Launched in partnership with Superdrug and the British Beauty Council, the ten successful up-and-coming MUAs will now embark on a four-month 'Studio Stars' programme designed to propel their careers in this exciting industry.
All Studio Stars will be gifted one kit of Superdrug’s makeup brand Studio London products and will spend a day at Superdrug’s Head Office, learning about the Studio London business and getting the opportunity to spend time with different departments to learn more about the business and have the chance to get involved in creating seasonal marketing material for Studio London over the course of the programme.
They will also benefit from exclusive educational webinar sessions with industry leading experts and take part in a makeup masterclass with Studio London’s ambassador and social media personality, Belle Hassan.
On discovering he was successful, Sam said: “I was so excited when I was contacted on TikTok, I wasn’t sure if it was a hoax at first and it took me a moment to realise I’d gotten through.
“I’m so excited to get going and I can’t wait to receive the Studio London makeup kit as the products are amazing!”
The campaign, which officially started in August and runs until the new year, aims to support emerging talent with ambitions to enter the industry but who may be faced with a number of different challenges – from a lack of opportunities to the price of purchasing a full kit.
"I don't think people realise how expensive it can be to provide a full, inclusive kit for clients so being involved in this project, which is hoping to make the industry more accessible, is a great opportunity.
“I can’t wait to get involved in the programme, it’s going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I’m really happy to be a part of it.”
Beauty and Media Makeup lecturer, Aimee Foster, added: “We are so proud of Sam! He embraces every opportunity presented at College and goes out of his way to create opportunities outside of his course.
“We were not surprised when he shared the news with us that he’d won a place on the Studio Stars programme, he is a very talented young man who no doubt has an exciting career ahead of him.”
