This course aims to introduce you to a broad range of topics relevant to the performing arts industry and is designed to prepare you for progression to further study at Level 3 providing students with performance experiences and opportunities to develop skills and talents relevant to the industry. 

You will have the opportunity to work on a number of performances based around scripted plays, dance, singing or working behind the scenes on set design, prop making, lighting and sound. You will be encouraged to release your creative flair, devising plays and theatre pieces of your own. You will develop your talents and progress from the course with the basics of being an all round performer.

The study programme will also incorporate a range of work related experience activities to ensure that you have the breadth of skills required to progress to further/higher, employment or an apprenticeship.

You will need 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above. However, if you have a keen interest in the subject and commitment to succeed, your entry requirements will be discussed at interview. 

You are assessed throughout the course both formally and informally. Assessments take the form of both practical and theory, which is assessed and evaluated by the staff who teach you. The results are available for discussion and advice and you are given a record showing how best you might progress on the course. Your overall qualification is designated a Pass, Merit, Distinction, Distinction*.

This nationally recognised qualification (equivalent to 3 A Levels) is ideal for those wishing to progress to university in a related subject or to employment.

This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18.

College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a gross household income under £30,000 can receive financial support to cover college related costs such as transport, meals, course equipment and uniform. Bursary support is based on individual circumstances and will be allocated to best suit your individual needs. What else do I need to know?

As part of your study programme here at the College, alongside your chosen course you will complete a contextualised English and maths session and if you have not already achieved a grade 4 or above then you will also take part in GCSE English and maths sessions.
