Are you considering a rewarding career working with young children but not sure where to begin? Our 20-Hour Introduction to Early Years Education is the perfect starting point for adults wanting to step confidently into the Early Years sector.

This short, engaging course provides a clear and practical overview of what it means to work with children aged 0–5. Through a blend of accessible theory, real-world examples, and practical guidance, you will gain a solid understanding of child development, the role of the Early Years practitioner, and the importance of creating safe, nurturing learning environments.

Whether you’re exploring a new career path, preparing to volunteer, or planning to progress into further qualifications, this introductory programme will help you build knowledge, confidence, and a sense of purpose. The course will cover:

  • The principles of Early Years development and learning
  • Key responsibilities and expectations of Early Years practitioners
  • How to support children’s communication, play, and emotional wellbeing
  • Creating safe, inclusive environments for young children
  • Professional skills and behaviours valued in Early Years settings

 

By the end of the course, learners will have the knowledge and confidence to consider a career or pursue further study to help they gain a job in an early years setting.  

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. It is suitable for beginners or anyone interested in pursuing a career in Early Years. Learners should have a willingness to learn and an interest in working with children aged up to the age of 5 years.

There are no formal assessments, just supportive learning and activities in class. You will work through an individual learning plan and receive regular feedback from your tutor.

Please note that courses run subject to minimum viable class sizes. 

All materials will be provided and there will be real life practical activities for you to complete. 

Our daytime classes take place in welcoming community venues close to the college, offering a convenient and supportive learning environment. You’ll have the opportunity to meet like-minded adults who are also looking to develop their skills, achieve their ambitions, and take the next steps in their careers.
