The Level 1 Certificate in Employability Skills supports learners in developing essential skills for the workplace, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management. This course enhances job readiness, boosts confidence, and provides practical tools to help individuals progress into employment, apprenticeships, or further education and training.
The Level 1 Certificate in Employability Skills is designed for 16–18-year-olds (up to 24 with an EHCP) or those progressing from Preparation for Work, aiming to develop work, learning, and life skills. It supports students who may face barriers in education and employment by introducing essential employment concepts and life skills. The programme encourages personal growth, confidence, and independence, preparing learners for vocational study, supported internships, traineeships, or employment. It helps uncover hidden talents and provides practical experience to ease the transition into adulthood and the workforce.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. All students are considered on an individual basis and matched to a course that best meets their needs and supports their outcomes, helping them progress toward their aspirations.
Initial assessment takes place over several weeks, tailored to each learner’s needs, identifying strengths and areas for development through various methods to set starting points. Students complete a portfolio assessed through speaking, listening, reading, writing, project-based learning, video, and photographic evidence, with opportunities to achieve nationally accredited qualifications or meet individual targets.

This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18.
College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a gross household income under £35,000 can receive financial support to cover college related costs such as transport, meals, course equipment and uniform.
