Course overview

Would you like to develop your experience and knowledge as a leader or manager in the health and social care sector? The diploma focuses on developing advanced leadership and management skills necessary to effectively oversee and enhance adult care services. Participants explore topics such as strategic planning, resource management, staff development, quality assurance and regulatory compliance.

Because this is a recognised award you will be supported and trained by highly qualified and diverse assessors and tutors from the health and social care sector.
The course consists of mandatory units and a selection of optional units to fit your work role.

Some of the topics included: Communication, Health and Safety, Laws and legislation, Responsibilities, Policies and Procedures for the Sector, Role of a Care Worker, Equality & Diversity, Adult Safeguarding, Duty of Care, Handling of Information, Infection Control, Professional Development, Supervisions, Project of your choice relating to the sector, Recruitment and Retention.

Individuals that wish to undertake this qualification must be in a suitable role within the health and social care sector. It is aimed at leaders within the environment that have direct management responsibility for staff, service users and external stakeholders.
You will need to have a good level of English and maths; both will be assessed during the information, advice and guidance session.

Assessment is through observation of performance in the workplace, knowledge and understanding you show through written/oral questioning, professional discussions and assignments and an e-portfolio of supporting evidence is also collated.
Submission of a project proposal during the induction period.

Complete an online application form to be invited in for an interview.

Further bespoke training for the health and social care sector and further leadership and management training is available and will be discussed with your tutor/assessor.

You can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan or Higher Education Loan to help with the costs of your course if you are 19 or older and the course you are studying is an eligible Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 course. A DBS is required. The course is suitable for managers of residential services, assistant managers of residential services, assistant managers, senior care workers if appropriate, day service managers, day service assistant managers, managers domiciliary services, assistant mangers domiciliary services. Please note there may be additional costs for books, materials or other expenses.
