The PCE in Post Compulsory Education is a professional teaching qualification that aims to develop the skills and knowledge required for teaching in the post-compulsory sector. The course is designed for those who wish to teach in further education colleges, adult education centres, and other post-compulsory education settings.

You’ll be given the tools to plan, implement and evaluate teaching and learning activities for post-16 education, and follow a course of study and research which covers the following subjects:

  • An Introduction to post-compulsory education
  • Curriculum issues
  • Principles of learning and the characteristics of the post-16 learner
  • Planning for learning and methods of teaching and assessment
  • Theories and principles of learning
  • Teaching practices and e-learning
  • Assessment method and practice
  • Curriculum content
  • Policy and practice

This qualification validated by the University of Wolverhampton will open up a wide range of career options in a variety of educational environments including colleges, community learning and development centres, adult education centres, private training organisations, prisons and young offender institutions, voluntary and charity organisations and universities.

To study this course, you will need the following qualifications:

A Level 3 or above qualification in a relevant subject area. You will need to have achieved a grade 4 or above (C or above or Level 2 equivalent) in English and Maths. Access to a minimum of 2 hours per week in a post-16 teaching environment or above is also required.

The course is assessed via completion of assignments, work based observations and professional practice portfolio.
