Course overview
The Preparation for Work course equips learners with essential skills and knowledge to enter the workforce. It focuses on building confidence, understanding employer expectations, developing communication and teamwork abilities, and exploring career options—laying a strong foundation for successful progression into employment, apprenticeships, or further training.
The Preparation for Work pathway is aimed at 16–18-year-olds (up to 24 with an EHCP) working between Entry Levels 1–2, focusing on developing independent living and learning skills alongside English, maths, and digital skills. It provides a structured, supportive environment to build confidence, resilience, and personal skills, aligned with the SEND Preparing for Adulthood outcomes and individual EHC plans. The course prepares students for adult life, promoting independence through practical learning in communication, teamwork, travel training, managing money, and home skills such as cooking and cleaning.
