MIDLAND ARMY CHALLENGE NEWCASTLE 3

Newcastle College students take part in the Army Midlands Challenge

Organised by the Army Engagement Team at Parsons Barracks in Donnington, the Level 2 students were tasked with completing a range of real-life challenges mimicking army activities such as a gruelling assault course, crossing a minefield, setting up a catapult and having a go at a 25 metre firing range using laser weapons.

Competing against students from other colleges, they were scored and judged on their timings, teamwork and how well they embraced the spirit of the British Military Forces.

Lisa Green, Curriculum Lead for Level 2 Public Services at Newcastle College, said: “The Army Midlands Challenge is a fantastic day that really puts the students through their paces.

“The activities they take part in are based on real army experiences and aim to test the fitness, resilience and team working skills of the students involved.

“We came first in the firing range activity and second overall so we’re really proud of the students for getting stuck in and giving it their all.”
