Daisy, who has consistently worked at Distinction grade, said, “At 15 I started work in a local hotel and decided I would like to do an apprenticeship, as working in Hospitality was something I really enjoyed.

“I started as a food runner, and worked my way up and got promoted to server. During the first year of my apprenticeship, I completed my training to be a bartender too, and was invited to go to Nottingham to complete my level one Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) award in wines, where I got the highest score overall.

“I passed my Level 2 Food and Beverage Team Member Apprenticeship Standard, with Distinctions across all my exams, even achieving 50/50 in my knowledge test.

“I then decided to do my Level 3 Hospitality Supervisor apprenticeship, where I became a supervisor at age 18. During this time, I learnt the following; opening and closing of the premises, the banking and finances, ensuring the kitchen was safe and legal, training new members of staff, dealing with customers queries and complaints, and many more things. I completed every aspect of the job from cleaning the toilets, to being in the kitchen.

“I worked alongside charities like Caudwell Children, working with children with autism to help them kickstart their career and improve their confidence by spending a day with me in my job role. I worked on events with Staffordshire Sight Loss Community, ensuring they had an inclusive meal. I even got invited to the Caudwell Children Charity Ball, due to the work I had done with the charity.

“I also featured in NSCG’s National Apprenticeship Magazine, promoting apprenticeship across Newcastle, and featured on digital billboards in the town centre. I then featured in a YouTube video for NSCG, talking about my experience with my apprenticeship, in the hopes that it would encourage other people to start their own apprenticeship journey.

“I am now looking forward to starting university in September, studying International Hospitality and Tourism at University College Birmingham, which is something I would never have had the confidence to do if it was not for my apprenticeship.”
