NSCG Hosts Regional Sports Leadership Conference
Last week, Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) proudly hosted the second Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport Leadership Conference, bringing together over 60 young sports leaders from across the North of England for a day of training, development, and practical sporting activities.
Held on Friday 14th February at Newcastle College, the event kicked off with sessions aimed at equipping students with essential leadership skills. These sessions provided insight into key topics such as inclusivity in sport, increasing female participation through initiatives like ‘This Girl Can,’ sustainability in physical activities, and the role of sport in supporting mental and physical wellbeing.
In the afternoon, students moved to the college’s outdoor facilities, where they participated in hands-on practical sessions. These activities, supported by The Football Association (FA) and the Rugby Football Union (RFU), allowed students to put their leadership skills into practice.

Students in the program work toward an accredited leadership award, and have the opportunity to get involved with a range of areas such as coaching, officiating and event management to gain experience for their future careers.
Todd Bailey, Curriculum Manager for Sports and Public Services at NSCG, said: “NSCG is proud to be at the forefront of developing young sports ambassadors, supporting their journey to becoming the next generation of leaders in the sports industry.
“We were delighted to host the second AoC Sport Leadership Conference and to have the opportunity to showcase the facilities on offer at NSCG. It was truly worthwhile day and I’d like to thank everyone involved for bringing this brilliant event to life.”
Sarah Nickless, Partnerships and Programmes Development Officer at the Association of Colleges, said: “We are incredibly grateful to NSCG for allowing us to host one of our Student Leadership Programme events on site. Colleges are the hubs of their communities and we have loved being able to showcase the facilities and capabilities of the college.
“To see so many students wanting to make a difference is truly inspiring, not only the leaders of the future but of today!”
