CHIARA CLARKE WEB 8

Meet Chiara Clarke who has recently completed the part-time Level 3 Sports Performance Massage course. In our Q&A, Chiara chats to us about her reasons for studying as an adult learner and her career ambitions.

My tutors and my studies at NSCG have given me clarity of career progression and the direction I would like my career to go in.

Chiara Clarke, Level 3 Performance Massage

Why did you choose to study the YMCA Level 3 Diploma in Performance Massage at NSCG?

I previously studied Level 2 and Level 3 Beauty Therapy at NSCG and this is where I discovered my interest in massage therapies. After completing these two courses, I wanted to progress my specialist skill set in this area so the Level 3 course was the perfect fit.

How did you find studying at college alongside your work commitments?

Fitting college studies alongside my job was easy for me as the course runs in the evenings, so I could come into college after work. I found it useful that you can come into college and complete coursework outside of the lessons using the computers and resources available.

Describe the key skills you have developed.

Studying the course has allowed me to gain further, specialist knowledge of the body and it’s systems along with more massage techniques that I can apply to my role as a therapist in a spa setting which is my next goal.

How has the Level 3 course helped you so far in your career?

This professional course looks great on my CV when applying for jobs combined with the other qualifications I’ve gained at NSCG. Hopefully, I will be able to combine my interests in both beauty massage treatments and performance massage treatments in my career and use this as a stepping stone.

My tutors and my studies at NSCG have given me clarity of career progression and the direction I would like my career to go in. It has also given me the confidence I needed to be able to move forward in an industry I otherwise wouldn’t have known was a suitable option for me, so that’s been an eye-opener.

Since completing the course, have you signed up for any other courses?

I’m hoping to progress onto the part-time Level 4 Performance a Massage course in the near future to develop my sports massage knowledge even further. I’ve recently completed an online aromatherapy course to help my clients with the healing process.

What would your advice be to anyone thinking of studying a part-time course at NSCG?

Just do it! When I was initially signing up for my beauty courses, I was worried about being in a college with lots of younger learners, but this wasn’t an issue at all, so don’t let that be a barrier. Take advantage of the support on offer and you will have an enjoyable experience.
