It's time to ring in the New Year with our first Student of the Month presentation of 2026. In this monthly presentation, we celebrate all of the individual efforts, progress and dedication of students who have truly gone above and beyond in their studies. This month, we’re joined by our incredible November winners and they were selected for a variety of reasons, from standing out in their studies, their inspiring ability to overcome challenges and their commitment to supporting their local community.

Melody Knight - Award for the Faculty of Academic Studies

Melody’s intellectual curiosity and independence as a learner truly set her apart. She consistently extends her studies beyond the classroom, drawing inspiration from experiences such as the Cambridge HE+ session on Antarctic microbiomes and exploring complex topics including climate change, heat shock responses and environmental sustainability. Her work experience at Chasewater Country Park, participation in the Swansea STEM summer school and EPQ research into microplastics highlight both her academic strength and ambition.

Alongside this, Melody has shown maturity and confidence through her contribution to the Stafford Town Plan focus group. Achieving so much while navigating the challenges of being profoundly deaf, using bilateral cochlear implants, lip reading and a Roger Radio Aid is a powerful testament to her resilience, determination and self-discipline. There is certainly a bright future ahead for Melody!

Harry Baughan - Award for the Faculty of Vocational Studies

Since starting his course, Harry has built strong relationships within the classroom and shown a genuine commitment to both his academic and personal development. He is always willing to support others and help them feel welcome, demonstrating kindness and empathy in everything he does. This was particularly evident during the recent trip to Standon Bowers, where Harry guided and encouraged his peers throughout the challenges, ensuring everyone felt supported and included. His ability to lead by example and foster teamwork made a real difference.

Alongside his studies, Harry’s involvement with the Hearts and Hands initiative, which helps to support vulnerable communities, has helped him develop valuable social, emotional and employability skills. His enthusiasm, maturity and strong work ethic make him a very worthy recipient of this award. Well done, Harry!
