Bringing together learners from a range of subject areas, the project has seen students design, prepare and brand their own race cars, gaining invaluable real-world experience along the way. The team has worked tirelessly to strip down, rebuild and modify the vehicles to ensure they meet the strict regulations required for competitive racing.

The project has attracted strong support from local businesses. EMS Industries have sponsored the team’s graphics and livery, while Penham Excel have donated two cars, a Peugeot 107 and a Citroën C1, for the students to transform into race-ready vehicles. Stafford Industrial Supplies have also partnered with the team, producing bespoke racing uniforms in collaboration with students, parents and the college.

The team have been guided by Mechanical Engineering lecturers Andy Stevens and Chris Sunderland, alongside John Paul (JP) Latham from Student Motorsport, an organisation dedicated to connecting students, educators and industry professionals to support progression into the motorsport sector.

The students have also been responsible for selecting the lead drivers for the car, by undertaking a competitive process, initially completing timed trials on a VR racing simulator before participating in races an indoor karting track. Following this process, Luke Sawyer, a current Level 3 Diploma in Engineering (Motorsport) student and Jake Gittus, who recently completed his studies, were named as the team’s lead drivers.

With preparations now in their final stages, NSCG Racing is gearing up for its debut season in the 2026 BRSCC City Car Cup, which runs from May to October 2026. The team will be travelling across the UK to iconic tracks including Anglesey Coastal, Snetterton and Silverstone, competing in seven adrenaline-fuelled races.
