During the Edexcel (9-1) GCSE in Mathematics course, you will develop maths skills with ambition of achieving a grade appropriate to your starting point. You will develop mathematical independence through reasoning and problem solving skills, which are presented in authentic contexts. The course will follow 6 key content headings, these will include:
• Number.
• Algebra.
• Ratio, proportion and rates of change.
• Geometry and measures.
• Probability.
• Statistics.
Your teacher will support you throughout the GCSE course; however, it is essential that you demonstrate real drive and commitment to achieving this challenging qualification. While studying with us, you will be expected to complete an additional two hours of weekly self-study, including homework and the use of online resources. You will also be required to attend three morning examinations; these are mandatory for all students, and the dates will be provided at the start of the course.
For the duration of the first 7 weeks, you are enrolled on an intro to GCSE Mathematics and will be taught the essential skills to help you progress on to the main GCSE qualification. At the end of the 7 weeks, you will complete a progress assessment, followed by a one to one with your teacher to discuss which qualification is suitable to support your needs and aspirations.
You should be confident in your number skills and where possible, though not essential, hold a Level 1 Functional Skills Maths qualification. To ensure the challenging maths course is suited to your starting point, you will be invited to attend a welcome event prior to the course start date to complete an initial assessment, meet your teacher, and learn more about the course.
Following your initial assessment, your teacher will discuss how you can prepare for your GCSE course and which exam series is most appropriate for you. This may include the November 2025 series for fast-track students or the May/June 2026 series for those following the full academic year.
You will be assessed through three externally set morning examinations, with fixed dates that cannot be changed. In addition, you will complete internal progress assessments to help ensure you remain on track to achieve your goals. Feedback and action points will be provided after each assessment, and online resources will be available to help you further develop any weaker areas.
