Gain expertise in electrical installation with our Level 2 Diploma program. Delve into advanced principles of electrical systems, wiring regulations and safety procedures. Whether you aspire to work independently or with a contracting firm, this diploma equips you with the skills and certification needed to excel in the field of electrical installation. 

This course will provide you with basic understanding of electrical installation practical skills and theory that will prepare you to move towards employment as an electrician.

You will learn about: how to work effectively and safely with electrical installations; the theory and principles of electricity and electrical installations; how to apply health and safety in the workplace; and how to connect and install electrical systems. This includes different types of circuits, different components and safety equipment. By the end of the course, you will be able to work confidently and safely in installing electrical systems and be able to produce high quality work.

As a condition of being offered a place on this course, you would be expected to meet the following entry requirements:

  • Submit a school report showing your attendance, behaviour and effort details
  • Attend the Department Experience Day in June 2025
  • Complete a summer assignment which would be set on Experience Day in June 2025
  • You will need to achieve/have achieved GCSEs at grade 4 or above in Maths and a grade 3 or above in English Language

You will complete a range of practical projects and will be assessed and monitored throughout the year on these. You will also have to complete multiple choice tests for each unit you study and complete practical and written assessments.

After completing the course you will be able to progress to the full time Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation to continue to develop your skills and knowledge in electrical installation. You will also be well prepared to progress into employment with an electrical installation company as an apprentice.

This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18.

College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a gross household income under £30,000 can receive financial support to cover college related costs such as transport, meals, course equipment and uniform. Bursary support is based on individual circumstances and will be allocated to best suit your individual needs. What else do I need to know?

As part of your course, you will visit building sites and electrical installation companies to find out more about real-life work in a range of settings. There may also be opportunities to undertake work experience as part of the course.
