Business Students Take 1st Place at Stoke-on-Trent City Council Centenary Games
15 October 2025
To celebrate 100 years of Stoke-on-Trent City Council, business students from across the region came together to take part in the Centenary Business Management Games, an event designed to give young people a real insight into the workings of local government.
Held at the Civic Centre in Stoke, the event saw BTEC and T Level Business students from NSCG compete alongside peers from other local colleges, stepping into the roles of council officers to tackle real-world scenarios around planning, adult social care and local government reform (LGR).
Throughout the day, teams were challenged to develop proposals, respond to realistic disruptions and justify their ideas to local councillors and members of the media, including a mock interview with the council leader and BBC representatives.
Each scenario was scored for completion, teamwork and performance, encouraging students to demonstrate collaboration, communication and critical thinking under pressure.
NSCG students excelled on the day, with team ‘The Potterpreneurs’ taking 1st place with 185 points, while two other NSCG teams secured 3rd and 6th place finishes. Prizes were presented by the Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent in the Council Chambers.
The event marks the conclusion of the Council’s first School Games, which aimed to inspire young people to explore careers in local government and understand how their ideas can help shape the future of their communities.
