NSCG Commis Chef Apprentice wins Special Achievement Award
NSCG apprentice Niamh Newby has been presented with a Special Achievement Award at the recent Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Apprenticeship Graduation Ceremony.
Awarded by Ladder for Staffordshire, the leading multi-organisation champion for apprenticeships in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, the Special Achievement Award goes to an apprentice who has made a significant impact in their industry.
Niamh has been passionate about the culinary world since she was young and followed her dreams to take on a Commis Chef apprenticeship, which introduces learners to a professional kitchen including food hygiene standards, knife skills and cooking techniques.
Employed by Aston Marina, Niamh has flourished in the culinary world. During the summer holidays, she even went on to secure a placement with Michelin starred establishment Upstairs.
Niamh approached renowned chef Tom Shepherd, who owns the Lichfield based restaurant, on Instagram and was delighted when she was invited in for a two day placement.
Niamh said: “If anyone was considering an apprenticeship I would say absolutely do it! I think it is the best way to get into this industry as you’ll get the all-important hands on experience.”
Assessor in Hospitality and Catering, Karen Pointon, added: “We are really proud of Niamh. She is a truly dedicated individual and we are confident she will excel at whatever she puts her mind to and we are sure she has a very successful career in the food industry ahead.”
