Sports students showcase their work at research event

Level 3 Sport and Sport Science students welcomed family, local businesses and NSCG staff members to a research presentation afternoon on Wednesday 12th June, held in the college’s Gordon Banks Sports Centre.

As an extension of their studies, students were tasked with carrying out an investigation into an area of their choice with topics including ‘dropout rate in sport between the ages of 12-19’, ‘menstrual cycle impact on performance’ and ‘impact of sport on mental health’.

To complete the project, students were required to plan their research, collect data and then finally present their project and discuss their findings during the presentation event.

The event took a ‘browse and question’ format, with guests able to visit each project stall and discuss the research, findings and inspiration behind the project.

Local businesses, sports coaches and representatives from the Football Association (FA) alongside the students’ families and friends were all in attendance.

Members of the NSCG Senior Leadership Team also visited the event, including Principal and Chief Executive Craig Hodgson.

The project aimed to develop the students’ investigation skills, as well as their communication and confidence when interacting with stakeholders.

It has really helped them understand their own qualities and skills set which will prepare them for university or employment.”

Adam Brigham, owner of Adapt Health and Fitness, attended the event and said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to showcase their work and to network with future employers. The studies on show were of a really high standard with great explanations and clear application to real world coaching.”
