The Riverbank Restaurant at Stafford College was once again the setting for an evening of fine dining and community spirit, as guests gathered for a special charity night in support of Katharine House Hospice.

Organised by the Eccleshall Support Group, the event raised an impressive £1500 for the Stafford-based hospice, which provides specialist palliative care for people with complex, progressive illnesses, as well as vital advice and support for their loved ones.

Guests enjoyed an exceptional five-course menu prepared and served by the talented Stafford College Catering students. The evening began with a selection of artisan breads and snacks, including Japanese Milk Bread, Wild Mushroom Duxelle en Croute and a Caramelised Onion and Chestnut Croquette.

The starter featured Torched Mackerel with horseradish crème fraîche, baby beetroot and dill, followed by a choice of Duo of Duck served with butternut squash, Cavolo Nero, hazelnut, blackberry and port jus or a vegetarian Butternut Squash Gnocchi with toasted walnuts, cavolo nero and sage.

Apple & Blackberry Crumble Tart with crème anglaise was served for dessert, followed by a Whiskey Sours sweet treat to complete the evening.

The event not only raised valuable funds for a worthy cause but also provided an invaluable opportunity for Stafford College Catering students to gain hands-on experience preparing and delivering a professional fine dining service in a live restaurant environment.

Diane Hutchinson, Hair and Beauty Administrator at Stafford College who organised the event, said: “The generosity of everyone who came along, from joining us on the night to buying raffle tickets, helped us raise an amazing £1,500. We couldn’t have done it without the support of the college.”

Richard Allan, Chef/Lecturer and Riverbank Restaurant Manager at NSCG Stafford College said: “We were delighted to support the incredible work that Katharine House does by hosting the charity event at The Riverbank Restaurant in October.

“The restaurant always looks to bring people together for such a great cause, our students worked so hard to give our guests a great night and we are so proud of them all.”
